Humans Will Be Humans

People will disappoint you, and you will disappoint people. Grace begins when you stop demanding infallibility from humans.

There was a time I used to think through the people I may have disappointed. The honest truth is, I hate disappointing people. I hate it when someone puts their confidence in me, and I let them down. Being disappointed hurts, when such high hope gets drained through the night and the cold disappointment clouds your mind and leaves you chilled from morning till dawn.

So often hope comes like a breath, leaving before you can understand its significance. And we as mortals toil on, still having hope with no guarantee of its realisation.

As I’ve gone through life I think I’ve come to face the fact that disappointments in every form of relationship will come. Some will not mean to disappoint you but will. Some will mean to, and will.

What even took me longer to realise is the fact that I will disappoint many, willingly or unwillingly. I believe it comes with the package of being human. The truth is life isn’t a static paper we can just decorate with colours and leave hanging on wall. It isn’t a verse we could decorate with flowers and leave in corner. Life isn’t even an answer, else we would all ask it “why”.

We as humans live in an ever-changing world. Our goals are constantly changing, and we must come to terms with the fact that we will disappoint others, and others will disappoint us. Not because we want them to, but because at the end of the day, we aren’t infallible. Many who vowed to be there for us and aren’t probably meant it when they said it.

So the next time a Peter grabs you and swears to the highest heavens that they would follow you to the cross and die with you, just smile. Don’t call them a liar. They’d probably keep their vow, but they also probably wouldn’t.

Humans will be Humans, and God will be God. If I’ve learnt (or re-learnt) anything this year its that God is the only rock that cannot be moved after all.

Take disappointments with a pinch of salt for your own sanity. You also cannot keep fighting everyone who let you down. You would only harm yourself by doing so. Treat people with grace and put all trust in God.

Stay with the conversation.
