God’s entrepreneurial journey is one that inspires me time and again.

Many wonder whether God concerns Himself with their business. God is the best idea generator I know. He’s gone through the same entrepreneurial journey as every entrepreneur and shares your struggles.

Let’s take a look at three steps every entrepreneur goes through and the lessons we learn from how God followed those steps.

The vision. Every entrepreneur starts with a vision. An idea. A thought process. Without a vision, you’re basically wasting your time as an entrepreneur. God once had an idea. In Gen 1:26, he called his team together and said: “Let us make man in our own image and likeness, and let them have dominion”. They discussed the specification of what or who they wanted to make. It was just in the mind at that point.

Work the vision into reality. This is the point where every entrepreneur goes to work. This is where the dirty work is done. The excitement still exists. You want to build something you believe will change the world and so you’re working really hard at it. God brought his team together and specially designed and implemented his idea in Gen 1:27. They all came together and worked really hard at it.

Don’t ever think your vision will become reality if you aren’t willing to work really hard at it. We see God as a hard worker here, just to bring his vision to reality. When He was done, He looked at it and said: “This is good”. God was proud of his work. He wasn’t ashamed to publicly declare his work as perfect and good.

When you’ve launched out, don’t ever think to yourself “what if people don’t like my work”. Brag about that product like it’s the damn best thing the world has ever seen and heard of. Speak about how perfect it is, tell the world how amazing it is. You’ve put in the work, you may as well be proud of what you’ve accomplished.

Do everything to keep the reality in line with the vision. This has to be the toughest part of entrepreneurship. So you’ve built a great product or service. It doesn’t end there. You need to keep customers coming back, income flowing in, desire has to remain constant. And so you keep changing processes, reinventing the wheel so as to keep the reality of your product in line with the original vision. I could state a number of times God kept doing all he could to keep his creation in line with his vision but that is what the whole Bible is about.

Sometimes as entrepreneurs we come to a point where we just want to quit and give up. We look around and nothing just seems to be working out right. We ask ourselves “why did I even start this thing”. The Bible says God regretted making humanity and was deeply troubled (Genesis 6:6). Even the almighty God felt like giving up and wondered why he even started. He looked at the reality of his creation and it was far away from the vision he had. But he didn’t give up, He continued pursuing His purpose through covenant, law, kings and, finally, His Son.

After trying it all, He eventually decided to send His own Son to come and rectify things. That’s how far God was willing to go just so he could make his creation align with his original vision. How far are you willing to go for the business? The excitement of the product may have left you but it’s not the time to give up yet. You may be faced with terrible challenges while you try and align the business to the vision. God shows us here that it’s okay to try different processes and methods. He teaches us never to give up on our ideas and vision. Never to give up on whatever it is we may have started.

Whatever God has laid on your heart, keep working towards it, keep trying, keep reinvesting, it may not be the way you want to see it but it doesn’t mean it’s over.

Entrepreneurship is a creative act made possible by the creative impulses that God has given us. No one will understand your entrepreneurship journey more than God does.
